Summer 2024 Presidents Update

Hello everyone, welcome to CUPE 4540's first President's Corner report. I hope everyone is having a great summer with friends, family, and colleagues. Major changes are happening, from the implementation of 12-hour tours of duty to the rollout of YourHub. Our by-laws, which were passed by the membership earlier this year, have been approved by CUPE National and are now on the website.

Labour relations meetings have started again with the hospital, covering topics from yourhub, the hospital's mental health initiative, the rave alert system to name a few. I have started meeting with new hires during corporate orientation, introducing myself and explaining the role of the union. 

Our next monthly general meeting is September 30th. I have confirmed dates and rooms for our monthly meetings until June 2025. The information is posted at both hospital sites and our webpage, instagram and facebook.

Your executives have been attending rallies fighting against the privatization of healthcare and putting pressure on the Ford government to release more money into healthcare. This fall will be seeing some major initiatives, the largest being the Trojan House tour. A 16 foot replica of a trojan house will be visiting many hospitals across the province highlighting the dangers of privatization of healthcare. Ford Conservatives are selling it as a gift but it's a grift, removing desperately needed money and resources from public healthcare and giving it to private corporations. 

Our next round of Bargaining begins October 15th, 2024. We have been intensely preparing for what we hope will be a successful round of Bargaining and to achieve the increases you all deserve.
