Happy New Year - 2025

Happy New Year, I hope this finds you well and 2025 becomes an amazing year for everyone.

It’s been a busy start to 2025. We had our 5th day of Bargaining with the 6th scheduled for February 12. Progress is being made but much work still needs to be done before we can bring something to the membership to vote on.

We had our most successful meet the union executive days so far. Approximately 200 members met with union representatives to discuss a wide variety of issues. We learned a lot, got to meet new people and catch up with many others.

There have been 1 grievance hearings, and we have 2 mediations and another grievance hearing coming in the next 2 weeks. These are very demanding with much prep work being needed, including  consulting with our legal council, Cupe National reps, our own research and communication with the parties involved.

You have spoken and the executive has listened. We received much feedback that you wanted hybrid membership meetings, the ability to participate both in person and virtually.  January 27th will be the first general membership meeting under the new format. We ask for   patience with the executive as this is the first one.  At the beginning of the meeting, we will outline the rules that need to be followed.

Your executive has been working hard at regional and provincial levels to increase healthcare spending, protect workers rights and to assure healthcare remains universal and does not become privatized.

There are many challenges ahead for union members and healthcare across the province. You executive is ready to meet these and future issues head on to make the union stronger, safer and more respected for the amazing work you all do.
